In John 6 Christ has reached a peak of popularity among the general population. However, this kind of popularity is not what was important to Christ, neither did it have the power to save those who were following Him. So in this chapter Christ teaches the people that, "Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you" (vs 53.)
This was somewhat troubling to me that Christ was saying this and sort of didn't seem to have patience with those who didn't understand it because the people had no knowledge of what he really meant in the symbolism of the sacrament. However, after class on thing that made sense to me was that sometimes we will have our own trials of faith when we hear about things or have experiences that seem really bizarre or don't make much sense to us. However these trials shouldn't cause us to question the faith in Christ that we already know we have, just as the apostles didn't leave Christ because of their faith.
