I have been reading the crucifixion accounts in the New Testament this week, and it brought to mind some thoughts that I've had about how the Savior lived his life. I think they are pretty well reflected by Elder Callister's book, The Infinite Atonement. Elder Callister says, “There was something in the Savior’s descent that made possible man’s ascent.” on page 27. This reminds me of the scripture in 2 Nephi 9:11- “because of the way of deliverance of our God... this death... shall deliver up its dead.". Also the verse, “As I have been lifted up by men even so should men be lifted up by their father” in 3 Nephi 27:14. To me this goes back to the idea that sacrifice may be the ultimate power of Heaven.
Elder Callister later also says “One of the ironies of life is that we acquire love as we give it away; we increase in knowledge as we dispense what we have… As we exercise power in righteousness, we acquire more powers.” This reminds me of the verse “He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it” in Matt 10:39. The Savior sacrificed all he had for those he loved, so I believe my task and yours is to try to do that as well.
